Current Employer: Virginia Physicians for Women Background: After graduating with a bachelor degree in Human Resources from JMU and master’s in Labor Relations from WVU, I started my career in employee benefits by consulting to multiple small to mid-size companies in the Washington DC area. I spent a majority of my time educating and processing open enrollment for a dozen companies who did not have onsite human resources departments. Favorite Richmond restaurants: I am a Southside girl who stays on my side of the river a majority of time! Sunday Park Boathouse, Made in Asia and LaCucina. Activities, Interests: I enjoy local and Charlottesville’s wide selection of wineries, kayaking on the reservoir, working out with my husband and spending time with family and friends. What got you into the benefits field? I have always wanted to be in healthcare field but knew I could not stomach the clinical aspect. With a strong interest in operations and human resources, I began to really enjoy my increasing knowledge of how employee benefits can play a critical role in recruitment and retention. Since I knew I couldn’t succeed as a nurse or physician, why not support the healthcare field from a business perspective! How has the CEBS designation helped you? I have gained more in depth exposure to the world of employee benefits and retirement savings that allows me to make strategic decisions for my company and educate employees on effective choices and utilization. |
